Hybrid materials were produced by a bioinspired mineralization of cellulose templates with silica and calcium carbonate and their structural characteristics were investigated. It could be shown that the cellulose has an influence on the structure of the mineral phases being formed. In case of the silica cellulose hybrid materials it is possible to adjust the dimensions of the deposited silica phase. The network structure of the used cellulose gels creates a local confined reaction environment for the mineralization of calcium carbonate and leads to the formation of mesocrystals.
