The current trend in high-performance computing shows an increasing gap between computing power and bandwidth of persistent storage. To exploit the full bandwidth of storage systems, a large variety of different I/O libraries and parallel file systems is available. This work reorganizes parallel, unstructured datasets of scientific applications to efficiently utilize the existing infrastructure. By bridging the gap between the earthquake simulation code SeisSol and existing I/O libraries, realistic seismic simulation at petascale level are made possible. The simulations are performed on more than 100 billion degrees of freedom and run on today's largest supercomputers.

Der aktuelle Trend im Hochleistungsrechnen zeigt einen immer größer werdenden Kluft zwischen Rechenleistung und Bandbreite der Festplatten. Um die volle Bandbreite von Speichersystemen zu nutzen, wurde eine Vielzahl von E/A-Bibliotheken und parallelen Dateisystemen entwickelt. Diese Arbeit ordnet parallele, unstrukturierte Datensätze von wissenschaftlichen Anwendungen so um, dass die existierende Infrastruktur effizient ausgenutzt wird. Durch die Kopplung des Erdbebensimulationscodes SeisSol mit E/A-Bibliotheken werden realistische seismische Simulationen im Petaflop-Bereich möglich. Diese Simulationen laufen auf den größten Hochleistungsrechnern und rechnen mit mehr als 100 Millionen Freiheitsgraden.
