Abstract:
Non-Newtonian fluids can develop banded velocity and concentration profiles under strong shear deformations, which is known as shear banding. To study shear banding in semidilute entangled polymer solutions, we have developed a new thermodynamically consistent two-fluid model using the generalized bracket approach of non-equilibrium thermodynamics. The stress- induced migration is responsible for the shear band formation in our model. We also analyzed the model behavior in different industrially relevant flows.
