The area of extremely steep sloped vineyards in cultivation is rapidly decreasing. “Geisi”, a driverless carrier vehicle with studded roller wheels, is a new, cableless steep slope mechanization solution. The subject of this work is a study on the steering behavior of the vehicle. A skid steering as well as an articulated steering variant of the vehicle was built. Steering control software was developed. Using strain gauges, wheel impulse counters and GPS, these steering systems are compared with regard to slip and material stress. The passively articulated steering system is found to be better suited for the intended purpose.
