Seed banking, the storage of seeds in the soil, is a life history strategy common to many plants, playing a
significant role in the survival of species. It is expected to evolve when the occurrence of unfavourable
conditions is not predictable, and such life history strategies evolving in response to environmental
stochasticity are defined as “bet-hedging” strategies. The aim of this thesis is to explore host-parasite
coevolutionary dynamics as a novel cause for the evolution of seed banking.
