Abstract:

Architecture, building services and user requirements always influenced the conditions in museum spaces. This had different consequences for the preservation of works of art. These interdependences were investigated on the basis of nearly 190 years of technical building history of the Alte Pinakothek. Therefore, a method was developed which, for the first time, relates comprehensive source studies, hygro-thermal modelling as well as light simulations. Based on the principles of preventive conservation the results were evaluated in a broader context.
