Die Dissertation untersucht Obst und Gemüse als lebendige Produkte aus den beiden Perspektiven der Designforschung und der Science and Technology Studies. Der Produktionsprozess von Obst- und Gemüseerzeugnissen wird dabei als Designprozess verstanden und im Hinblick auf seine Bedingungen und Zielsetzungen beleuchtet. Schwerpunkte der Arbeit sind demnach einerseits die Vorstellungen von Produktqualität, die der Gestaltung zugrunde liegen, andererseits die Eigenschaften des Lebendigen, die die Gestaltung bedingen.      «

This study investigates fruit and vegetables as living products from the two perspectives of Design Research and Science and Technology Studies. The process of production of fruit and vegetables is looked at as a design process and is analyzed with respect to its underlying conditions and its objectives. One main focus therefore lies on the notions of product quality that inform the design process; the second emphasis asks for the characteristics of living things that condition and shape the human design efforts.     «
