Abstract:
Digital platforms enabled platform owners to gain significant market power which often translated into abuse of power. To address abuse of power in Europe this thesis analyzes the sources of power of digital platforms, their impact on consumers and organizations, and how European firms can compete in the platform economy. The thesis discusses the need for regulatory intervention and a European strategy for platform regulation.

Digitale Plattformen verhalfen Plattformbesitzern zu erheblicher Marktmacht, welche sich oft in Machtmissbrauch äußerte. Um den Machtmissbrauch in Europa zu adressieren, untersucht diese Arbeit die Machtquellen digitaler Plattformen, ihre Auswirkungen auf Verbraucher und Unternehmen und wie europäische Unternehmen in der Plattformökonomie konkurrieren können. Die Arbeit diskutiert die Notwendigkeit regulatorischer Eingriffe und eine europäische Strategie zur Plattformregulierung.
