EddySim allows for the prediction of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) related eddy current effects of a newly designed gradient coil on the image quality without having to construct a prototype. The main focus of the thesis is on the development of a flexible and modular concept, but also on its implementation and validation. To that end, EddySim integrates electromagnetic field simulations into the image formation simulation such that realistic statements on the effect on image quality are obtained. EddySim includes a parallel environment of graphical processing units to surmount the limitations of computational speed, and hardware model optimizations to overcome the given memory restrictions. The process is illustrated with a planar gradient coil where the reduced symmetry and lack of shielding confront the researcher with significant challenges in terms of the induced eddy currents in the conducting structures of the MRI system.

EddySim ermöglicht es, Vorhersagen über die Bildqualität einer neuen Gradientenspule der Magnetresonanztomographie (MRT) unter Einbeziehung der von ihr verursachten Wirbelstromeffekte zu treffen, ohne einen Prototypen herstellen zu müssen. Der Schwerpunkt dieser Arbeit liegt sowohl in der Erstellung des flexiblen und modularen Konzepts als auch in dessen Implementierung und Validierung. Dazu werden elektromagnetische Feldsimulationen in die Bildgebungssimulation einbezogen, um eine Vorhersage über den Wirbelstromeffekt und die damit verbundenen Bildstörungen zu ermöglichen.
