Abstract:: In this thesis, I study how organizations create value by establishing digital platform ecosystems. Based on qualitative case studies covering 118 interviews in seven organizations, I derive governance mechanisms that platform owners apply to co-create value with third parties and to capture a share of that value. Thereby, I particularly focus on the challenges that traditional companies face when establishing digital platforms as part of their digital transformation strategy.
Translated abstract:: In dieser Arbeit untersuche ich, wie Unternehmen mit digitalen Plattformökosystemen Wert generieren. Basierend auf qualitativen Fallstudien mit 118 Interviews in sieben Unternehmen leite ich Governancemechanismen ab, die Plattformbetreiber anwenden, um mit Dritten Wert zu generieren und einen Teil des Wertes abzuschöpfen. Dabei fokussiere ich insbesondere auf die Herausforderungen traditioneller Unternehmen beim Aufbau digitaler Plattformen als Teil ihrer Strategie der digitalen Transformation.
