Abstract:: The dearth of spatially-explicit, socio-perceptual methods currently represents a large gap in urban green space planning. This thesis explores the suitability of public participation geographic information systems (PPGIS) to assess cultural ecosystem services and enhance urban green infrastructure planning. The research includes strategic plan analysis, stakeholder interviews and a PPGIS survey on green space use and perceptions using the case study city of Berlin. Results indicate a high suitability of PPGIS to meet these stated aims and tackle current planning challenges. «

Translated abstract:: Der Mangel an räumlich-expliziten, sozio-perzeptuellen Methoden stellt bisher eine große Lücke in der städtischen Grünflächenplanung dar. Diese Dissertation untersucht die Eignung partizipativer geographischer Informationssysteme (PPGIS) kulturelle Ökosystemleistungen zu bewerten und urbane grüne Infrastrukturplanung zu verbessern. Die Forschung umfasst strategische Plananalysen, Stakeholder-Interviews und eine PPGIS-Umfrage zur Nutzung und Wahrnehmung von Grünflächen im Rahmen der Fallstudie Berlin. Die Ergebnisse weisen auf eine gute Eignung von PPGIS hin, die genannten Ziele zu erreichen bzw. aktuellen Herausforderungen in der Planung gezielt anzugehen. «
