Rising prices for natural resources and an increased ecological awareness require systems to monitor the resource efficiency of industrial plants. Manufacturing trends impose increasing needs for reconfigurable, application-independent monitoring systems that allow for the integration of knowledge on multiple plant aspects.
On this account, an approach for implementing a decentralized resource monitoring system by means of knowledge-based technologies was proposed within this thesis. Based on this approach, the resource savings potentials of manufacturing plants can be identified.
