For the measurement of temperature and strain in casted aluminium parts, fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors were developed and verified. These FBG were able to measure during the solidification process and operation of the part. A new method for a simple calibration procedure for multi-point temperature sensors, based on the data of single-point temperature sensors, was developed. For the first time, the mechanical behaviour of an optical fiber was investigated with regenerated FBG (RFBG) in a temperature range from room temperature to 900 °C.
