The introduction of Head-Up-Displays (HUDs) into the vehicle opened up the possibility to create Augmented Reality (AR) applications. The development of the AR HUD remains a challenging field, as knowledge from several research areas is required to create a sophisticated product. In this thesis, we describe the development, implementation and the thorough investigation of visualisation concepts in a prototype vehicle. Overall, the AR HUD has a strong potential in increasing the trust in assistance systems on the path towards automated driving.
