Kurzfassung:
Gyrokinetics, a state of the art model to simulate plasma microturbulence, is essential for the development of future nuclear fusion reactors. The nonlinear global gyrokinetic simulations involve a very large number of grid point and are thus extremely computationally expensive. To reduce the number of grid points without losing accuracy, we introduce an approach based on block-structured grids. This results in a high speedup, a reduced memory footprint, and the capability to advance the frontier of feasible gyrokinetic plasma simulations.
