Translated abstract:
PC-based systems are more and more used for the control of time-critical technical processes, especially in conjunction with real-time soft- and hardware extensions. This thesis analyzes PC components, architectures and real-time extensions regarding their real-time properties and boundaries. A classification in seven different system architectures is introduced and allows the selection of an optimal system for a given application. The successful use for the realization of two industrial control systems demonstrates the suitability in practice. Additionally concepts for new system architectures are presented.
