Microbiota plays a critical role in natural environments and human health. This thesis explored microbial communities in extreme environments, including an alpine lake, deep groundwater, and intestinal environments of patients. It revealed that extreme environments harbored specific microbial communities, which adapted to extreme environments by altering their community structure, lifestyles, and individual genetic characteristics. Moreover, the microbial community was resilient and could return to its pre-disturbance state in extreme environments.
