Kurzfassung:
Enterococcus faecalis is a resident member of the human intestinal microbiota that has been linked to the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases and induces chronic colitis in monoassociated IL10-deficient mice. In this study, we investigated the functional activity of E. faecalis in two gnotobiotic settings: In monoassociated conditions or as part of a bacterial consortium (SIHUMI). In conclusion, this study demonstrates that bacterial consortia interactions reprogram the gene expression profile and colitogenic activity of the pathobiont E. faecalis toward a protective function.
