One of the main reasons for damage to screeds is insufficient drying before the application of surface coatings. Moreover, screeds dry only from the surface. The non-uniform drying can lead to cracking. The relevant material properties and environmental influences were investigated experimentally. The drying was simulated with a FEM-program. The parameters affecting the drying process were examined and a nomogram developed, to determine the drying time. In addition, stress and deformation were calculated from the distribution of moisture. Based on a parameter study, important effects were discussed and evaluated.
