The stone funeral architecture in Lycia (5./4. century b.c) in the South-West part of sontemporary Turkey shows elements of a wooden construction in structure and form, which seems to be modeled on the stone architecture. As the tombs are distroyed more and more, most of the free standing tombs in Lycia have been drawn and examinated and the constructive interpretation has been analysed. The identification of details and the developpement of a special lycien wooden construction system support the thesis, that lycien stone tombs, which are still existing, are indirect copies of a wood construction, which dissappeared. The actual reconstruction of experimental buildings in Limyra may give an impression of this lost wooden architecture.
