Internationale Blickwinkel: Eine umfassende Untersuchung von Projektablaufmodellen zur gezielten Förderung integrativer Ansätze im Bauwesen
Abstract:
In times of rapid technological progress, the relevance of agility and adapting to change is increasing (Niestroj et al. 2020). However, this contrasts with the established German construction project process, which – due to its alignment with the Honorarordnung für Architekten und Ingenieure (HOAI) – largely follows the waterfall model (Flick & Flick 2023). In this context, it is appropriate to reflect on how the German process can be developed towards adaptability. Therefore, this thesis aims to highlight differences in international approaches to the construction project process and to identify potential for integrative approaches in the German process. Specifically, the questions of how other countries proceed in the construction project process, to what extent this differs from the German process and which approaches can be adopted in German construction project processes are examined. Besides Germany, Sweden, Austria and Italy are analyzed as comparative countries. In order to answer the research questions, the theoretical research methodology of systematic literature research was applied, which was then used as the basis for a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats analysis (SWOT analysis) for each country. Furthermore, the practical dimension was incorporated through empirical research based on semi-structured interviews with experts. The analysis results in the following key findings: 1. If project phases occur (partially) in parallel, then the construction project can be carried out more efficiently. 2. If all relevant project participants are involved at an early stage in the construction project process, then fewer changes and planning errors occur in later phases. 3. If iterative approaches are integrated into construction project processes, then planning errors are recognized earlier and fewer planning error-related changes occur. Furthermore, practical differences are identified with regard to the distribution of roles within the project process, the degree of digitalization as well as the tendering and awarding process. In order to optimise the German process, it is proposed to integrate finding one to three as well as the approaches of digitalisation and awarding. Further research potential includes the analysis of project processes in other countries and the analysis of future developments, for instance through building information modelling or artificial intelligence.
