Selectivity is essential in matrix-susceptible analytical workflows such as compound-specific isotope analysis of aquatic micropollutants. In this work, the sensitivity of carbon isotope analysis of pesticides was improved by almost one order of magnitude using novel cyclodextrin-based solid-phase extraction sorbents. The study systematically investigated their selectivity and discrimination toward both target analytes and interfering organic matrix, including resolving the compositional space of the extracted dissolved organic matter by ultrahigh-resolution mass spectrometry.
