The invariant/surrogate light chain (SLC) forms, as part of the pre-B-cell (pre-BCR) receptor, an important checkpoint during B-cell development. The SLC consists, unlike conventional light chains of two non-covalently linked proteins: Lambda5 and VPREB. Their functions and special structural features are not yet fully understood. Therefore, this thesis analyzed the mechanism of SLC and pre-BCR assembly and investigated the role of their structural features. The high antigen affinity of the Fd-SLC Fab fragment provides an interesting starting point for further research.
