Although the guild chests have been part of the City Museum of Munich’s collection since 1929, most of them have to date only been displayed and catalogued as individual items. We provide here an overview of this unusually varied collection. By creating a system of classification, examining the details of their construction, recording the current state of their preservation, and by means of a comprehensive photographic documentation, we hope to establish a foundation for further research and preservation work on these unique chests.
