The collection of 24 wooden models, representing holy sites of Christianity, is owned by the princely house of Thurn und Taxis. It was housed in the Fürst Thurn und Taxis Zentralarchiv in Regensburg until
work on this thesis began. The models were produced in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, supposedly by Franciscans in workshops in Jerusalem and/or Bethlehem. This thesis contains a technological examination of the models regarding the work processes, machining
and processing of the materials used, including wood, metal, shell, bone and ivory. The models are presented and described in a catalog. This thesis also covers plans of the Franciscan friar BERNARDINO AMICO dating from the year 1620. These map out floor plans, elevations and views of sacred sites,
including those of some of the models in this collection.
