Women in Architecture

The study "Women in Architecture" examined in which direction female architects are developing and whether there is a structural drop-out which leads to women not arriving in their profession or not reaching management positions, due to exclusion mechanisms based on professional culture. To achieve this, existing data and statistics were analysed and interpreted. Expert interviews were used to gain a deeper insight into the professional culture. For this purpose, female and male architects from different employment relationships were interviewed, as well as people who have studied architecture but do not work in their profession. The large number and variety of open research questions shows the need for further research. At the same time, the empirical and quantitative evidence of the study and its visualisation make it very clear, that gender in the architectural profession is a topic that is not regulated by waiting and seeing alone. The available information must already now be an incentive for change and the development of a new culture in the architecture industry     «
