In this work, the influence of acceleration control on the control behavior of servo drives is investigated. An acceleration sensor is not used. The actual acceleration is calculated from the position measuring value. Using a verified model for position measuring errors, the influence of the position resolution and the measuring signal quality on the calculated acceleration is shown. Based on these results, the concept of a combined current and acceleration control is developed and its functionality proven.
