Construction processes ought to be organized that they contribute to a sustainable development.
In order to support this objective resources and materials used for construction products or components have to be arbitrated according to their environmental, economic and social impact. This is necessary throughout the entire life cycle, from raw material extraction to the recycling or the thermal use.
At the moment planners and real estate developers only partly consider the use phase, most of the time the production phase, hence seldom the disposal phase and the dismantling respectively the reuse of already existing structures or entire components is considered. Additionally the origin of raw material is not asked for.
Objective is the development of a resource inventory of structures which is at the same time simple to understand but sufficient precise and applicable in everyday practice. The resource inventory should serve as basis for data collection and use and document used materials. Therefore information structures are recognized, which are useful to resource efficiency and sustainable development, these are identified during the research project.
Furthermore a material inventory and material accounting method of buildings is developed.
This method development describes the information and data acquisition and supplies the foundation for the preparation of a database. For that a theoretical model is developed.
Principles and reaction of systems and the construction materials they are made of are described in dependency of structural design situations. Three case studies are evaluated to examine defined parameters and to verify insight. A conclusion on the application of the material inventory in practice is given.
