Model order reduction methods are investigated in combination with the optimization of mechanical structures and a procedure is developed, that leads to higher efficiency of evolutionary optimization strategies. Further the consideration of restrictions of the additive manufacturing process is examined for topology optimization and several penalization methods are assessed. For the development of a vehicle's spaceframe a successive optimization strategy is implemented, which leads to a better mechanical behavior of the structure.
