Abstract:
A modeling strategy is proposed for the real-time simulation of interacting multi-rotor helicopter configurations using the blade element method. An inflow model introduced by Pitt & Peters is extended to account for coupling effects by the modification of the induced inflow velocities. The aerodynamic interaction of the rotors is represented by a parametric formulation which is gain scheduled depending on the state of flight for a given geometric rotor configuration. To represent the interaction effects, a parameter matrix is fitted to results of higher fidelity wake vortex simulations.
