To capture dynamic material failure in pedestrian protection polymer components, a modeling approach is developed. Upon the examination of failure behavior of PC-PET, a plastic strain failure model determined by calculated stress state and strain rate is established. The model parameters are thereby derived from experiments and, thereafter, applied in transient failure simulations. Their correlation with transient component tests by pedestrian protection impactors revealed a proper representation of technical reality.
