Ensemble simulations help to assess the uncertainty in numerical simulations, yet their computation is time-consuming and their visualization is challenging. In this thesis, we address both of these problems. One the one hand, using the example of incompressible fluids, we propose an adaptive multigrid approach for improving the efficiency of numerical simulations. One the other hand, we introduce the general concept of variability plots for the visualization of line-based features in ensemble data, which we demonstrate for ensembles of streamlines and ensembles of static and time-varying iso-contours.
