In this thesis, an introduction to the concept of the finite element method is given and the equilibrium formulation for non-linear behaviour is established. The reader is given a comprehensive introduction to the theory of plasticity, as well as the special adaptation for the truss members considered in this thesis. In addition, the application of the elastoplastic modulus of elasticity and the finite element method for the implementation of plasticity is discussed. The specially developed software is used to demonstrate the influences of the theory using generated static systems. Possible extensions of the code, which would exceed the scope of this bachelor thesis, are also discussed.
