In order to differentiate from competitors in the face of high market pressure and to respond to challenges created by customer expectations for service and applications, many IT service providers develop, market, and operate Product Service Systems (PSS). Designing and operating a PSS can be a complex process. To satisfy the customer needs, the provider does not only have to provide specific activities at one point in time, but has to manage the whole lifecycle consisting of design, conceptualization, implementation, introduction, operation, and end-of-lifecycle activities. In this paper, we develop a lifecycle model for the IT service industry from the provider?s perspective. The model is based on literature research and a multiple case study.
