For selective solubilisation of saccharides, wheat straw (WS) and spent coffee grounds (SCG) were treated with alkaline/hydrothermal processes and enzymatically saccharified. Alkaline treatment of WS mobilised 80 % of xylan, unselective enzymatic saccharification after pretreatment achieved 94 % of xylan. Maximum release of Mannan (32 %) from SCG was achieved after alkaline pretreatment followed by enzymatic hydrolysis. Approx. 60 % of the saccharides contained (cellulose, mannan) were enzymatically hydrolyzed without pretreatment.
