Spatial prediction methods based on statistical modeling have been applied for the mapping of forest site characteristics. Different application examples of existing methods as well as the development of new approaches are presented. Geoadditive regression models have been used to regionalize Ellenberg indicator values (moisture, reaction) in the Bavarian Alps. For the disaggregation of complex soil map units decision-tree based classification models have been used. The studies result in a new generation of site classification maps.
