'24hr Design and Development' - An Engine Design Project

Globalisation characterised by the worldwide merging, acquiring and collaborating activities enforces and enables enterprises to distribute their processes. “24hr Follow the Sun Design” is an example of a purposeful distribution across the borders of time, companies and continents. Through a case study the BMW Group wanted to investigate the potential of “24hr Follow the Sun Design” to reduce of costs and time as well as to improve quality. The basis for planning and realisation of the project is the Distribution Methodology - a holistic approach for identifying typical problems as well as developing and implementing solution activities. The present paper gives a basic introduction to the Distribution Methodology by describing its main elements and its application in the “24hr Follow the Sun Design Project”. The paper also presents the structure of the entire “24hr Follow the Sun Design Project” as well as the concept for realisation of the project. The initial results of the project are also presented.     «
