Die Gebäude des Kreuzviertels in der Münchner Altstadt wurden im Zweiten Weltkrieg zu ca. 70% zerstört. Die Stadt plante einen Wiederaufbau, der moderne Funktionen und historisches Altstadtbild vereinen sollte. Die Arbeit analysiert das städtische Aufbaumanagement im Kreuzviertel, das 1945 mit den Vorbereitungen für eine zentral gesteuerte Trümmerräumung begann und bis zur Wiederaufbauplanung für die leergeräumte Trümmerschuttkippe an der Maxburg führte. Mit dem 800-jährigen Stadtjubiläum im Jahr 1958 war der Wiederaufbau im Kreuzviertel weitgehend abgeschlossen.     «

Immediately after the end of World War II, the German city government of Munich had agreed that the heavily damaged Altstadt (Old Town) should be rebuilt to resemble the former city center. While large parts of the buildings had to be removed, most representative monuments were intended to be reconstructed and precious façades protected from further decay. As a result of the early post-war period, the outline and the physical appearance of the streets of the Altstadt have been restored, though often in simplified form.      «
