Due to the climate change, during the last decades the frequency of freezing and thawing cycles in soil increased. This leads to disrupted soil aggregates and cell lysis causing the release of soil organic C and N, which increases microbial N transformation processes. In this thesis three microcosm experiments were performed to investigate the influence of different types of plant litter on nitrification and denitrification pattern in soils after a freezing and thawing cycle. In this regard,the influence of copper on nitrification and denitrification pattern was also studied.
