This paper derives the DAV mortality table 2004 R for annuities. For this purpose, a basic table and a trend
function are derived with which all other mortality probabilities can be calculated. The paper explains
how the formulas for mortality probabilities and mortality trends are obtained using data from the insured
and from the general population. Furthermore, it presents various models for extrapolating mortality
probabilities for very old age groups, it explains the smoothing procedure and illustrates the calculation
of safety margins. Lastly, it presents a method for approximating the mortality table to a one-dimensional
basic table with age shift, and it compares the DAV mortality table 2004 R to the DAV mortality table 1994
R and current mortality data.
