The study presented focusses on the transport processes in physical models with lightweight sediments during flood events. A large-scale laboratory river reservoir with ellipsoidal polystyrene granules was used to conduct high-resolution measurements of the bed form evolution under various hydraulic conditions. The focus of the investigation was to resolve the temporal bed form development, measure instantaneous sediment transport rates and their fluctuations corresponding to the bed forms present in the river reservoir as well as to deduce bed form characteristics. Terrestrial laser scanning was used to acquire high-resolution bathymetry data through the water column during the ongoing experiments while an optical particle measurement method ensured continuous monitoring of the sediment discharge.
