Introduction:
In October 2019 the project “National Network on Climate Change and its Impacts (NNCCI)” of the Greek General Secretariat of Research and Technology was initiated. The NNCCI is a consortium of 10 partners and more than 200 researchers of various disciplines, who are expected to exchange know-how, experience and suggestions for adaptation/mitigation of the impacts of Climate Change (CC) on areas of their specialization, including floods, agriculture, tourism, marine environment and air pollution. The main assignment of the NTUA is the development of a methodology for the exemplary design of an integrated Early Warning System (EWS) for floods under CC that will be implemented as a pilot in the town of Mandra, in the Prefecture of Attica, which is an area with high flood risk. The design of an efficient EWS for floods in a specific region requires the knowledge of the behaviour of the floods in the region. For this reason, preliminary calculations on the disastrous flash flood in Mandra in November 2017 were performed; these calculations were performed using the two-dimensional model TELEMAC-2D and are briefly described in the present paper.
