Since the generation of road networks and environment models for traffic and driving simulations is time-consuming, alternative data sources are brought into focus. This article proposes two concepts for a coupling of traffic simulations and 3D city models according to the CityGML standard. The first one covers an automatic derivation of simulation conform road networks from 3D city model data. The differences between the data models for the representation of the traffic space in simulation applications and 3D city models are analysed to enable the transition of relevant information on model level. The second concept enables a visualization of simulation results within 3D city models. Therefore, dynamic traffic data is integrated into a 3D web client allowing for an interactive exploration of the simulation results in a realistic 3D scene. Together both approaches demonstrate the potential of coupling traffic simulations and semantic 3D city models.     «
