BACKGROUND AND AIMS: High-dose glucocorticoid treatment has been identified as a risk factor for anastomotic leakage in patients with inflammatory bowel disease [IBD] undergoing bowel resection surgery. By contrast, active disease during surgery is also associated with elevated morbidity.
