Efficient T cell migration during inflammation is tightly controlled by the integrin LFA-1 binding to its ligand ICAM-1 and by rearrangement of the cytoskeleton. This present work identifies a new signaling pathway in T cells from LFA-1 to the phosphatases PP1/PP2A regulating the phosphorylation state and hence the activity of ERM-proteins.
In vitro and
in vivo data point out the importance of continuous activation and inactivation of ERM-proteins for controlling T cell flexibility and LFA-1 mediated T cell migration during their recruitment into lymphoid organs.
