Abstract:
Today, despite years of research and development, network management is still complex, error-prone and requires human intervention. Software-Defined Networks reduce complexity in the forwarding devices by logically centralizing network control. However, techno-economic considerations force incremental upgrade of devices. This doctoral thesis at hand extends the state of the art in computer networks by tackling four challenges regarding the design and performance of such intermediate networks.

Die Orchestrierung von Computernetzen ist seit Jahrzehnten unverändert kompliziert, fehleranfällig und wenig flexibel. Software-Defined Networks ist ein neuer Ansatz der Geräte und Protokolle vereinheitlichen und austauschbarer machen soll. Die vorliegende Dissertation beschäftigt sich mit der Umstellung von traditionellen Netzen auf Software-basierte Netze. Die Ergebnisse der Dissertation erweitern den aktuellen Stand der Technik der Verwaltung von hybriden Netzen in vier Richtungen.
