Im Rahmen dieser Systemstudie wurde ein globales Versorgungsmodell einer vollständig auf regenerativem Strom basierten Versorgungsinfrastruktur entwickelt. Ziel war es, Pfade zu finden um die einzelnen Bedarfssektoren – hier die globale Grundstoffproduktion in 2050 – ohne fossile Rohstoffe und unter Beibehaltung derzeitiger Versorgungsinfrastrukturen und Endanwendungen CO2-neutral zu versorgen und hierfür die erforderlichen Energie- und Stoffströme zu quantifizieren. Im Fokus standen synthetisch erzeugte Kohlenwasserstoffe. Aus den Ergebnissen galt es, den regenerativen Primärressourcenbedarf zu identifizieren, diesen in ein globales Verhältnis zu setzen und daraus prinzipielle Machbarkeiten abzuleiten.
