Isolates of
Clostridium difficile, an emerging nosocomial pathogen, are often classified using PCR-ribotyping. The genome sequences of 48
C. difficile strains from 21 different ribotypes were compared. Sequence comparisons of various conserved genes revealed that strains belonging to the same ribotype always clustered together.
In addition, the complete genome sequences of the solventogenic clostridia
C. acetobutylicum,
C. saccharobutylicum,
C. beijerinckii und
C. butyricum were compared with respect to common and unique genes.
