Multiple N-methylation of peptide bonds and its influence on structure and pharmacological properties is described as a tool for the development of highly selective ligands for the melanocortin receptors. Complete N-methyl scans were performed at the synthetic melanocortin ligands MT-II and SHU9119. This yielded among others in highly selective agonists for the hMC1R.
Furthermore, the combination of MT-II with polymeric poly(2-oxazoline) and its influence on activity and selectivity is described.
