New SAR regulatory legume lectin-like proteins were examined. Mutations in these lectins compromised SAR and even intensify systemic susceptibility. Besides, the lectins were positively associated with the defence response to a necrotrophic pathogen but plant response to high salinity was negatively influenced by the lectins. Therefore, the legume lectin-like lectins LEC1, LEC2, and LLP1 might directly act upon the pathways of the phytohormones SA, JA, and ABA and could also affect cross talk between these pathways, thereby fine tuning systemic immunity.
